Hi, just purchased a X reg Punto goes great. No manual, 81k.

The clutch pedal has quite a bit of play, "bites near the top", I've read a few threads on this website to do with Bleeding[?], could anyone shed any light on this?

Is it difficult?
What tools do I need?
Where do I start?

Thanks

If the clutch works fine, (i.e. no slipping when fully engaged and you can change gears easily with it fully pressed down) I would say its normal and dosent need bleeding.

At 81k if its on its origional clutch, its done well. there are plenty of people (me included) who have had to change thier clutches aroung 50/60k, so it could just be worn.

Normally modern hydraulic clutch mechanisms are self adjusting so the bite always stays roughly the same place, but it its reached the end of its adjustment the bite will gradually get higher on the pedal.

If you wish to bleed it though, there is a bleed nipple on the slave cylinder (under the battery tray onto of the gearbox) if you get someone to press the clutch up and down while you look under the bonet you will see it moving.

Same preceudre as bleeding the brakes.
-Ensure there is enough fluid in the resoviour (at least over half full)
-attatch pipe to bleed nipple
-undo the nipple, press clutch fully down slowly, tighten up nipple before the clutch is released, then release clutch.

Repeat until clean fluid come out through the pipe.

Whilst doing this keep topping up the resoviour making sure it dosent get below min
