I've got a problem with my 05 Punto 1.8 HGT. ALL the warning lights on the dash are on - Engine Failure, Hill Holder Failure, ESP Failure everything, and the throttle is open at 2-3,000 revs (If you press the throttle nothing happens).

I've had the AA out a couple of times - the throttle body was the initial problem, but after giving it a clean the car ran fine. But now nothing works.

The cars only done 60,000 miles and just had a full service + Cambelt, and it's got the Hitachi brain anyone got any ideas - I'm hoping it's not terminal.

HGT's hate having poor batteries, if yours is on it's way out it maybe the problem.

Mine kicked off when the battery was still good in my HGT - all warning lights were on and stayed on (throttle was fine though). Checked the battery and it came up fine in a test but tried a Varta uprated one and my problems went straight away.

Maybe worth trying one of your mates' batteries or similar.

Thanks for the response - the battery was replaced with a new one 9 months ago. I've also had the AA clear the faults and try the battery disconnect trick - nothing seemed to work.

This is odd.

Hasnt had the engine bay steam-cleaned / jetwashed recently has it by any chance? Might be worth checking over all the earth / ground point under the bonnet anyway? Just a thought.

Nope - never cleaned the engine. The earths seem alright. But a good idea to have another look.

They can look fine but may respond to removal, inspection, clean up and sealing against the atmosphere.

I've had another look at the engine - all seems fine, anyone else got any bright ideas? This is seriously annoying!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'd say 3 hours is not long enough to find every earth point, remove each cable, clean it and the ground point up and reassemble with a good vaseline moisture repellant. I know it would be nice if someone says "its this widget mate" and all got sorted in half an hour, but the truth is its probably something not easy to find but very simple when you do.
