I have psyched myself up and i'm going to change my water pump/coolant pump myself, I know what and how to change the water pump and yes I am going to use a RTV liquid gasket when I replace it. But what i'm most worried about is the timing belt i've heard it has to go on in a very specific way im going to buy a new one I don't know if that makes any difference also while the timing belt is out i'm going to replace my crank seal as i think that could be contributing to my oil leak, also does anyone know why I might get an oil leak from the left side of the sump (the left side from when your under the car) I know if its from the right its likely to be a crank seal, I have already replaced the rocker cover gasket and my thermostat and I have used my gasket sealer on both so as to stop/reduce any oil leak from the top.
Also if anyone could get me some pictures as to the specific location of the crank seal I would be very gratefull, I know roughly where it is I don't specifically know any pictures would be great.
Also how do I tighten and loosen my timing belt, and does anyone know how or where I can get the timing covers as I have part of the housing but not all of it and it rattles like mad, actually how important is it that I have the housing for it.

I replaced my crankshaft oil seal on wednesday, so will be happy to give you advice. you need to taker the timing belt off (use tippex to mark its position-on the pullys and housing) and then the bottom crank pulley has to come off. i will warn you now the bolt holding the crank pulley on is FT. The seal is now clearly visable, it has a red face. you will need some picking tools and some new oil (to lube up the seal). it will take you about 2 hours to do it if its the first one you've ever done. when you have the old seal out you need to wirewool inside where the old seal was until it is shiny, then spray some brake cleaner around it making it really shiny. with the new seal you need to smear oil on the inside lip and outside seal. and in a helical motion twist it over the woodruft key. a new seal is about 8quid.then refit it all.

I gotta thank 1383 Matt for his help but i'd like to hear as many different ideas as possible and if anyone can help with pictures that would be great, so can anyone else add to this thread. thanks
