I snapped my key in the door of my punto, so I still have the red bit of the red key...
Iv had a look about it seems its really expensive for the key and the code to be matched up etc.. but since i still hav the red bit with the chip in it would it be cheaper? I have the spare as well but the immo is stopping it from starting.
Id rather just disable the immobiliser but i dont know how to, and cant find info on the net at all!..so if anyone knows pm me ;) be much appriciated
thanks.

Hi, Welcome to the FF.

If your spare key doesn't have a chip in it, you can start the car using the spare whilst holding the red part of your broken key close to the ingition switch. Once the car has started, the chip doesn't need to be near the switch.

Dave.

It should start if you attach the red part of the key to the same keyring that your spare key is on. The car will pick up the signal and the imobiliser will deactivated as it was when you used just the red key to start the car,

You shouldnt really use the red key as your everyday key, loose it/break it and you run into problems. as its needed to reprogram any new keys.

I've tried that it still doesnt work, iv had it on the same keyring and ive held it right upto the ignition barrell still nothing. is there a particular place to hold it close to? ie. where is the sensor is there not a way i could attach it to that..
thanks

still not working? i took off the casing off from the ignition barrell and put it really close to that still nothing.
Is there a possibility ive flattend my battery from trying to start it?
the code light stays on when i turn the electrics on and it usually goes off after a few secs so it dont seem to be picking it up.
Think im gonna just have to take it in tomorrow, i really didnt want to spend any money tho!

ya can get a replacement just take ya broken key and ya spare along to a key cutting shop they can check to see if they have the right code there bout £30-£40 most shops carry them x

thanks for the help guys, sorted now though.. didnt cost me a penny,
Took the casing from under the steering wheel, took off the ring that reads the code and got some insulation tape and put taped the ring round the bit of the key thats left...Bit of a bodge job but it works! Which means its not immobilised but i dont think anyone would try and steal my car lol.
Got a new lock and key for my door, bit of a pain changing the barrell on the door.. ill give it a go when i got more time but least im back on the road :)

If it is stolen and the insurance find out the imobiliser has been disabled this way, your insurnace will be void.

don't know if it will help by teh keys i got when i brought my car wern't orriginals they were made by a compnay called KL italy.. or atleast thats what i says on the key! the other thing on the key is FT1505TK5 don't know if that a vehicle reference or what hope it may help (note the guys i got i from was a cheap scate so they can't have cost much or he wouldnt have got them .. they work fine and ive never had a problem!

What you could of tried is tape the remains of the red key to a spare key making sure the are both the same way round then try in the ignition.

Perhaps the originals at some point were lost and the owner got Fiat to fit a new lock? It may well be that KL Italy manufacture keys for all Puntos, and if yours is a replacement key, it might not have the original casing on it???
I did Google that part number (FT1505TK), and found the shape (with no cut) for sale here. Probably just a replacement key for a previous owner who replaced the lock / lost their original main key;
If you're unsure why not contact your local Fiat dealership and see if they know anything about it?!

We've just bought a '99 60 S which only had one key, the blue one. I'm sure this must have come up before in which case I apologise but Timpsons (the cobbler/key cutter folk) hold certain codes and were able to supply me with as many dupes as I wanted, at £24 each. I got two and they made that £45. I was well pleased. They're the proper transponder keys and work both the doors and the ignition no bother whatsoever. Got spare keys for the Moggy Minor and a new watchstrap while I was in there, and filled in a comments card which puts me in a draw for £250! Result! Great service.

How much does the FIAT dealer charge for a new blue key, if you have a red key?

Noel.
