Strange one this.Replaced the timing belt in my 96 1.2 60sx Punto about 5 months ago.Since then when you start it you will hear a metallic rattling sound coming from the timing belt side of the engine. It doesn't happen all the time, which is strange, some days it won't do it at all?If i was to describe the sound it sounds like a small steel ball rattling about in a small steel box?Anyone any ideas?

Yep, I can relate to this one. I would be interested to hear what you guys think!!! Please come back with some suggestions.

Robbocop have you checked for any oil or water leaks?

I had my cam changed a few weeks ago and been getting the same problem along with a water leak from the water pump and squealing noise on cold start, which has been well reported on other threads. You seem to be defo getting the same rattle like mine after the cam change.

I actually replaced the water pump when i was doing the belt.Don't think there are any leaks either. It's just the fact that some days it won't make the noise at all confuses me?

Hummm its a difficult one.

Come on guys, is there anyone with some suggestions plz? :)

Is the cam timing spot on? I saw a Post from dave the Mod on here the other day, these engines cant be done without use of the correct locking tools as the timing slips when the tensioner is adjusted if the proper kit isnt used. Only needs to be a tooth out. Check if the belt has gone slack and is catching the timing belt cover intermittently maybe?
