Hello to all!Im new to this forum and i have a 2001 punto 8v portuguese plate :) ,The car already has 180000km and so far without serious problems! I want to know if somebody has already passed de 250000km because i want to keep the car for some more years (i do a very good maintenance). Thank you and sorry about the bad english

Forgot the conversion of units but dont seem to me a big problem multiply a number for 1.6... km, miles, pounds, kilos just a matter of conversion as the motors are the same.

That's encouraging to know! How many of those Km's have you done in the car? Do you know if it has been mainly long journeys or lots of short ones?

i bought the car 2 years ago to a friend of mine with 155000km on the clock. So i've mad 25000km so far and it is my first car :) The car was used by his mother, his girlfriend and for him as the first car of the family! so the treatment probably wasn't the best but he was always very careful with the maintenance, revisions and oil changes. He used to make probably 150km per day in highway, city and open roads. The car made several trips from one point of portugal to the other (aprox 800km) heavly loaded with passengers and luggage! That's the reason i love the car and the main reason that made my opinion about fiat to change! Today i treat the car very well. I drive in city, open road and sometimes in highway. I usually don't rev it too much (till 2500rpm) but sometimes i need to ear the beautifull sound of reving and i push it till 5000rpm. In highway withount inclination i do 160km/h stable and never tried to push more because i like being alive but it could go a little bit far!

It sounds like your car's a little star!
I am new to Punto ownership (1 year), but there are plenty of people on this forum that will confirm that if properly looked after, the little 8v unit is very tough and durable. Mine was bought with 60,000 miles (96000km) on the clock and had been owned from new by 2 women (no offence ladies). It ran ok, but was not smooth, a bit hesitant and didn't like to be revved too much. After a good service, new coil packs, a new clutch, new crankcase breather pipe, cleaned out throttle body, plenty of good runs and some high revs, it runs really smoothly and seems to rev very happily :)

Hey, i had a 1995 Punto with a 1.2 8v engine and that had done 168,000 miles (270369 km) with a good service history and the engine was still in good condition. Even the MOT guy said so :)

After all this years still got the punto. Now 245000km. 1 coil pack and water pump replaced. The water pump was my fault cause it wasn't changed when the last cambelt was repalced. Very tired on the outside but still starts at first attempt and never failed on me!

My first engine lasted 300000km (there was some oil consumption and one valve got blown from cylinder head, bought Punto 50k driven in 2009), second 250000km (Thermostat seized, bought it 177k driven) and now I installed third one two weeks ago which is 170k driven :D

A very large number of kilometers for what I am supposing is a private car. Is that from driving to audio demos and exhibitions?

Still own the car and life sent me to work in a rent a car. Drive many powerful premium cars but Punto will be with me till one of us die. 260000km. Saw me starting my adulthood, allowed me to visit almost every city of my country and is now my 3 years old daughter favorite car from daddy - Portuguese pópó do papá. Still original engine never opened. Will it live forever? No, the paint is losing vernish and the interior is going a little tired but it still works as supposed. Love the car even though is just a machine. 11 years have passed since first post. I am getting old...

it's just a car if it fails, just be happy to get rid of it. It will become so expensive to own that you're going get so mad at it.

You might be right about getting too mad to keep it. I have been taping up my wiring loom here and there. Even at the crash switch there is a hidden plug there with about 50 wires on it that will all some day need improvement. Or maybe the car will just keep on going sufficiently long?

So far so good but the car was registered in 2004 and 2024 is still quite a long way to go. 2030 is still possible however. But yes I am getting quite mad with it sometimes already!
