All,

Our Punto has been working perfectly since we got it a year ago, but recently have noticed the following, and would appreciate your help/advice:

1) Car doesn't always start first time.
2) After starting (with clutch in), selecting reverse often causes it to stall.
3) Power steering sometimes fails (only ever at low speeds) then comes back on after a few meters, always accompanied by the "Dualdrive Failure" warning light, and sometimes (her indoors will attest) the "Fiat Code/Car Protection System Failure" warning light (car and padlock).
4) Engine has stalled a few times when breaking or going over particularly harsh speed bumps.
5) I could swear that the bugger is giving me significantly more static shocks when closing the door (frame) or inserting the key to lock. (Possibly unrelated!)

...I have my suspicions (poor/loose battery grounding), but would appreciate your thoughts before I get under the bonnet tomoz... :)

TIA

i think you could be right with the battery .. too many co-incidences .. but if not, the power steering could be a lack of power steering fluid or your power steering pump could be gubbed. but i doubt that.

Thats a strange one, but yeah check the battery grounding.

Give me an update when ur done.

Hmmm. Battery and charging circuit tested a-ok, which means that it's probably a poor/loose connection somewhere. Any pointers on what to check/look for would be appreciated; I suspect there are multiple grounding points that I will need to check...

..did you ever resolve the issue its more or less our problem the bit ive qouted
takes forever to start our car from a cold start like 30 times and Fiat Code/Car Protection System Failure" warning light (engine and padlock). is on.
funny garage says it hasnt done it to them in 20 attempts told them to do it from a cold start.

was wondering you rattled any wires and resolved the issue?
