I've just bought a Punto Mk2 1.2 2001 model for my daughters first car, i have had to do a few small jobs before she goes back to Uni in the car,
still got one problem i can't sort, the indicators flash really fast, i've had rear lights of and cleaned all bulb connectors and earths.
i've even cleaned front bulb connectors to no avail.
my last option is to try another flasher relay, now i've found fuse box and relay board behind the right side of dash panel and found all relay's on the front, but none of these are for indicators, it sounds like it is behind fuse board,, is the correct......comments please..

my dad always told me that it is because a light has gone, check all the lights for the indicators.

Thank you for all your idea's,but.........

As i said earlier all bulbs working ok (even side ones) all earths cleaned, no other lights coming on at the same time either.
indicators are bright not dim, tried everything....just want to know where flasher unit is on MK2 Punto..can hear it in fuse board but can't see or feel it, is it behind.

Hi mate,

As Dave said, the Flasher unit is incorporated/controlled into the BCU which is mounted on the rear of the fuse board. Its very unusual for this particular function of the BCU to go wrong.

Just to check, are you using any LED bulbs on the indicator circuit? and have you checked that all bulbs on the indicator circuit are the correct voltage (12v) and wattage (21w for front and rear and 5w for side markers)

Hope that helps,
Alan

no not using any LED bulbs, all standard. front and rear are12V 21W and side markers are W5W, i cant think of anything else to try now only asking Fiat dealers:cry:

Just had similar problem myself after buying a punto mk2 1.2 elx auto for my girlfriend.

After a bit of searching and head scrathing all bulbs were fine, turned out to be the indicator bulb holder, the metal contact that the bottom of the buld touches had coroded and broken off,

Halfords suggested a visit to the scrap yard to cut one off and joint the wires cheaper and easier than tracing the wire back and replacing the full length. But i managed a quick fix using the metal contact from an old cordlles drill charger did the job very well.

Hope you get it sorted

can any one tell me how to remove fuse board in dash panel safely without causing elec problems, i think flasher unit is behind, or i s part of multifunction control unit.:bang:

Hi mate,

BCU / MCU is the same thing. It doesn't contain a separate relay as such.

Anyway to remove it...

Disconnect the battery (very important)
1,Remove the internal fuse box cover

2,Unplug all of the wiring multi plugs (the ones with the coloured clips require you to pull the clips back to release them)

3, Undo the 2 (iirc) bolts that secure the fuse board/BCU to the dash unit.

4, Pull the fuse board / BCU assembly forwards slighty so that you can get to the wiring multi plugs at the rear to disconnect them

5, Remove the fuse board/BCU assembly from in the dash.

Then to separate the fuse board from the BCU, simply undo the clips either side, and the fuse board will pull away from the BCU.

Make sure that the battery is NOT reconnected untill ALL off the assembly is put back together and ALL of the wiring multi plugs are securely back in place.

Hope that helps,
Alan

thanks for that matey ,i may give it a try, will i lose radio code or is it programed into BCU.
can BCU be re programed by FIAT dealer or is it faulty..
and is faster indicators an M O T failure or not?

yes they seem to be faster than other punto's of the same age!! been driving around lookin for them to check..
can i change MCU with one from scrap yard, or must it be new,££££

does any body know if the Body control unit is reprogramable to adjust the speed of the indicators, or do i have to buy a new one...££££££££££
or could i replace it with a second hand one from a breakers yard?

all bulbs are correct to handbook spec...
if i put higher wattage bulbs in will this slow the flashing speed down ?
