I have got a mk2b and I am wondering how to remove the needles from my dash display to change the led's any help would be appreciated

if they are the same as the mk2 they just pull off (i used a fork to get mine off)

make sure you remember where the dials go when the ignition is on so you can fit them back in the right place

or before you take them off, move them to their furthest position, mark them up with masking tape or something then when refitting them, turn the "pin" to the same point (until it wont go further) then put the needle on so it lines up with the masking tape

The LED's for the dash and switches (city steering, elec windows etc) are the same

the centre console uses bulbs (not LED's but im unsure of the type)

Hope this helps

Mike

Cheers mate, i wonder how many bulbs i will need for my new dash with rev counter and temp gauge, but yeah was the soldering hard? or you just need a steady hand?

I would guess at about 9 or 10

but you can check this before you start if you are planning on doing it (remember there will be 4 orange ones for the needles, these should be left orange or changed to red... not sure how red would turn out with the needles being orange)

The soldering is quite tricky, i only have little, basic soldering experiance and managed it (tweezers are helpful) also you shouldnt spend too long on each LED (i.e. a few seconds soldering, if you havnt finished it, wait a few seconds for it to cool down then try again)

You need to prise off the needles (move them to there furthest point either way then mark them up with masking tape then when you come to put them back on, make sure the pin is at its furthest point and put the needles back on in line with the tape)

when you have removed the needles, turn the unit over and you will see metal clips, push the centres with a flat screwdriver so they are lined up with the slot in the PCB, undo the plastic clips, then you should be able to prise it out..

Hope that helps

Mike

I think i put a blob of solder on one side, positioned the LED, melter the solder, then did the other side in 1 go (if you understand what i mean)

REMEMBER TO GET THEM THE RIGHT WAY!!!!!

I kept forgetting which way they came off so had to go and check by plugging it into the car and placing the LED in position (mainly on the switch panel as some were different ways so i couldnt go off the last one)
