Im new to the forum but bring an age old problem, POWER STEERING PROBLEM. Im not looking for a diagnosis Ive more or less concluded that I'll need to get it to a dealer and get the codes read from the steering ECU.

Its a X reg 1.2 16v sporting, steering light came and went for a bit as did the power steering, continued to drive it for a few months with no power steering and kept putting offf getting it sorted cos of the possible cost involved and our wedding coming up soon that has taken financial priority.

At low speed the steering shakes heavily and now started to hear a grinding noise when turning left. The Garage is a now an absolute urgent must !!

What I would like to hear from people is if there is a cheaper way of going about this, I dont want to buy a second hand part for risk of similar problem but could i buy a steering column from FIAT dealer and get local garage to fit ? does steering column include pump ? Local fiat dealer want £80 for the diagnosis, i dread to think what they want for the job itself, i want to avoid being taken to the cleaners with this and curb what gets flung on the old tiring credit card
