Hi all,

I know everyone must be sick of hearing about CD players, but I have a couple fo questions I hope you can answer. I have an 02 Mk2 Punto Active and my brother has been fiddling about trying to install a CD player instead of the rubbish tape player that was in it originally. Couple of problems though:

1. After a while the radio cuts out/goes dead
2. The clock has reset itself to 00.00 instead of running off my car's clock
3. Every time the radio goes dead I lose all the pre-set radio stations that I've tuned in.
4. When playing a CD it quite often goes dead after about 2 minutes

I think he may have joined a couple of wires together, but I'm afraid I don't know which, although it's not wired up to the ignition/cigarette lighter/electric windows etc.

Does anyone know any reasons why my radio might be behaving like this? Is it likely to be an issue with the wiring, or could it be the radio itself that is knackered?? I only bought the radio a couple of months ago and I haven't had it wired up until just recently.

Any help you can give would be greatly appreciated!

Cheers,

Sian

sounds like you mite have a direct short sumwhere
a positive wire might be touching the bodywork if its not insulated properly
or could have a few wires wrongly connected ??

I would think it's not wired correctly. The stereo should always have a permanent feed to store the presets whether or not the stereo itself is wired to an ignition feed.

what cd player have you fitted and what wires were joined? some require wires joining others do not and can be plugged straight in.
