My head gasket has gone and i have been quoted about 300 quid to repair it. know anyone that can repair head gaskets for less than 300 quid?

Why not have a go at it yourself, all you've got to lose is the cost of the gasket, bolts and a skim.
 
If you're local enough, I could lend you a manual. I could also show you how to do it and help you if you get stuck. It's such a simple engine to work on. I'd be surprised if it cost you any more than fifty quid and a day's slow graft to sort it. The last one I did only needed the gasket at about £12, and took me three hours. If it hasn't been cooked, then it may not need skimming, and I've only ever had to replace head bolts on a diesel due to the amount of stress when tightening.
 
mate i bought a cheap gasket for something like £10 and swapped it out. easy and i dont know anything about cars =]
 
lots of tutorials on youtube i did mine 3 weeks ago with help from here an youtube cant go wrong done 750 miles seems ok now i never done a head before
