hi all i have got a punto mk1 1.1cc

i am getting an intermittent knocking from rear of car passenger side

sometimes it does it driving in a straight line and sometime going round corners.

i checked exhaust but seems ok

also tried wobling roadwheel and get the knocking but seems to be from area near suspension leg but cant tell exactly

has any of you had same problem and found out what is was

any help or advise much apreciated

steve

thanks for your replies all would any off the problems you mention be intermitent knock or permanent
thanks

I have a smilar problem with my Mk2 Punto 1.2i. It only happens in first and second gear, I get this rattle noise at the back of the car. I've looked at the exhaust, suspension etc and can see no obvious problems.

It sounds like two bits of metal knocking against each other and causing a rattle sound.

Any ideas????

i have checked handbrake cable seems ok

i have notice under more inspection that if i rock the car from side i do not get the nocking noise but if i open boot then bopunce car up and down from there i get the nocking sound still on passenger rear

i have also noticed i get the nocking more sometimes when braking.

i think it is something on suspension but cant for the life of me pinpoint it and it is a cosly game to replace parts at a guess.

the car has been stood for 8 month do you think it may be dampers gone as it does bottom out quite easily over slow bumps

the suspensions bushes mentioned are these the rubbers top and bottom of springs

or if anyone can post a pic pointing this part out or mail me a pic much apreciated.

jack up the corner in question, move the wheel in all directions, its more than likely gonna be the rear arm. i had mine supplied and fitted for £65 (but my neighbour worked there)

thanks for replies all

i have jacked car up and feel no play in wheel can the subframe mounts cause this as the rubbers do look a little worn noise sounds like metal on metal

was front of rear sub frame bush on one of mine that did it.
fiat dont sell them just a bodge repair thing that goes over them. you can get real ones from motorfactors but you need to make a tool to fit them.

here is the tool

hi dave i have ordered my rear suspension mounts x4 as the ones on car look worn and perished.

to fit them does the whole back axle have to come off to fit them

thanks
steve

is there any other way to press these in without this tool as i have no means to make the tool and can they be fitted with axle still on car ie just lower the end i wish to fit new one.

also i have seen a post where a guy says his was fitted wrong ie it was fitted ontop instaed of underneath. ??????????? lost me

thanks
steve

if you got proper one from motor factors they fit from the top, if you got the bodge repair things from fiat the fit over the old ones from the bottom. you just lower the rear sub frame to remove on refit. it is imposible to fit them with out making up the press tool, have you got a local metal works near you thats where i got the bits to make mine they even drilled the wholes in it for me all for free, all i had to do was get the bolt,
carefull when removing subframe you dont bend the brake pipes.

thanks for reply dave ill have to try make something up would 2 very big washers and a bolt do or do i need the other bits as well.

also is the old ones hard to get out or do they just prise out
thanks
steve
