Hi, I just bought a bmc cda air filter for my punto sporting Mk2, havent fitted it yet coz it aint arrived yet! I was just wondering if any of u guys have got one of these & what u think, are they worth the 180 nicker i spent on it? I did have a crappy pipercross induction kit witch when i fitted sounded cool but it blatanly knocked my top seeped well down & all round made the car slower! Im hoping the BMC filter will sort this out & make the car sound phat! What u think?

havent got one personallly but friends has one on his vw. he swears buy it and i have read many other peoples comments saying that also, they are alot better than the normall piper cross/k&n and do work. i think there is someone on this forum that actually sells them in his job. they dont seem as loud as the other sort and have a different kinda noise but are good. hope you fit it ok :)

Aren't you supposed to ask this before you buy??? Ive heard theyre rubbish and ruin your cars engine and not worth the money

Only joking :D Many good things have been said about them so it should be ok. What engine are you putting it on? Let us know the difference it makes.

I am about to add one to the 2.4 20V Stilo on the advice of Alfanige! I have also felt the effect of one on Niges Alfa 2.4JTD - awesome....

Already confirmed the insurance upgrade, so looking forward to it now. Should be a few weeks away once Stilo been repaired, lol.

Is it worth going from a K&N to one?

I can fit the K&N on my girlfriend's Mk2 8v. Just wondering if there's any real difference.

Go for it large, I know you're the expert on this one. Be as unbiased as possible though!!!!

:)

the bmc cda kit comes in 2 sizes as far as punto's are concerned
1.2 8v and 16v
1.8 16v and 1.9 jtd

these are priced at 136 and 150 respectively this covers postage also.

the difference is definately noticable on all of the cars
although the noise is somewhat reduced compared to the open filter it is infact doing twice the work as it is keeping the air at a sustainable temperature and intaking more air than a k'n'n or similar.

virtually all designs of filter i have seen specified for the punto s with the possible exception of the novitec designs are all under sized.
inorder to go faster and to burn more fuel you need more oxygen this is only achievable by altering the intake surface area ie larger filtration device.

the next stage is to alter the inlet manifold this is a more costly excercise and as such the bmc cda is a good middle of the road solution.

i have used open filters on both my old 8v and my hgt and i have changed both for cda kits with marked improvement in performance.

although the price difference is noticable the improvement is well worth the odds.

Perfect!

Many thanks, that's just the kind of response I was looking for.

So what's the best way to get hold of one for the 1.2 8v?

Cheers.

here is a pic of one on an 8v installed how i found them best setup

Well, Angel Tuning have been installing these things as part of their tuning packages for ages and really rate them. They also have been doing some special offers with them, knocking £££'s off the price - they have recently done me an excellent deal for the Stilo - should be installed week on Saturday, and really looking forward to it :)

i am aware of nige
unfortunately he doesn't have access to the silicon kits being produced by gsr as many are still in development.

i would recommend people of a northernly disposition go see nige for the remaps etc and the southerners look to gsr

the remaps are produced by red dot as they are the importers for the millenium obd tuning.
peter has been working closely with red dot regards tuning the cars and will match the prices nigel is quoting assuming he doesn't start dropping the prices ridiculously and have the market fall apart. i'm all for cheap tuning but there comes a point when you have to be realistic

Er, sorry, I can't understand the last bit about prices...

It is a matter of economics - if a business wants to charge a lower price, that is up to them. If they can sustain that business, and overall there is no detriment to their profitability, then it is up to others to follow suit or re-assess their own prices. There seems to be an oligopoly going on.

Btw, I live in the Midlands - who should I use? ;)
