Hi all,

I'm new to this and totally dense about cars! I have a 2000 Fiat Punto ELX JTD, bought it last year and it flew through it's MOT without any advisories 2 weeks before xmas. I went to it this morning (after parking it up around 5pm yesterday) to find that there was a fan constantly running and when I got in to drive it the Fuel injection warning light was on (which it wasn't yesterday) - anyone got any ideas what might be causing this? it seems to drive fine, the only thing I have noticed is that the turbo doesn't seem to kick in until I hit 3000 RPM. HELP!!

Hello mate and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!!

First of all, check that you have coolant. However, your symptoms are classic for faulty temp sensor. Its located on the thermostat housing on the right hand side of the engine. (follow the top rad hose) There is a green electrical multi-plug, check that this is connected properly, if its disconnected, or the wiring is damaged, the EOBD light will illuminate and the cooling fan will run constantly. The same will also happen if the sensor itself is dead. The sensor is dead cheap from fiat or somewhere like HERE.

Of course to be 100% on this diagnosis, having the fault codes read would confirm.

Hope that helps

which sensor would that be? there are like 5 on the list for the parts website! :)

the cold start sensor?

Lol yea sorry mate, they refer to it as the cold start sensor on there. Its the green one. Is your temperature gauge working ok? I forgot to say that normally if that sensors gone, then the temp gauge wont work either.
