Hi all

I have an '01 Punto, with 53k on the clock. It's mechanically sound but both doors have holes next to the locks - a legacy of living near Moss Side a couple of years back unfortunately. I have also managed to lose the log book! I have decided to replace my trusty punto with a focus as I have a little boy now.

What do people think the best options are for getting rid of it? I was thinking about putting it on ebay or, in the worst case scenario, selling for scrap although this seems a bit drastic. Any advice would be really welcome!

Log books can be replaced, i wouldn't scrap it. I would sell it at a cheaper price because of the holes, i would certainly get a new log book before you try to sell it though as a lot of people will not buy a car without a log book.

you will need a V62 to get your new log book. I think there is a charge for this but its not a great deal.

where are you located? as said, first things first apply for new logbook.

Hi Beau - located in Manchester. Have found the logbook - had confused this with the book that records the service history, showing my ignorance!

ebay would be best bet, just make sure you take 12 good pics so it will sell.

jus wonderin does any 1 no wat gearbox i can pyut in it as i have blown the standard 1 im after something that will giv better acceleration

Do you mean to put gearbox? or engine? A different gearbox may give better accelration but it will only be slight, it wont be noticeable.

Whereas a new engine (as you say a gt engine) will give better acceleration but requires alot of work to change, then upgrade brakes, suspension etc...

just get a new normal gearbox, another one wont make it any quicker.

and wait til you can afford a bigger engined car, waste of money on a 1.2.

buy an older faster car?

you could sell your punto for 1200, and buy a 1998 bravo 1.8 for 600 and insure it with the rest for example.

i got 3 points so it would b loads 2 insure haha


im payin somefin like 1400 on ma mums now

The chips from ebay are utter rubbish, you will end up braking the car. have a read at the stickies in this forum.

Not declaring things on your insurance is risky, if you ever need to claim and they find out you have modded the engine they wont pay out, and you may be liable to pay the other party (assuming you crashed into someone else).

Im not sure on the legality of it either, surely its fraud.

The 8v isnt that slow anyway. Sure its not the fastest car on the road but in the right gear its adequate. You shouldnt be racing other cars on public roads anyway (you said you wnat it to be faster than your mates corsa). Im guessing thats a 1.2 16v?

You would be better off saving up and when your 19/20 getting a faster car. You will be older so insurance cheaper (or should be providing no claims, no more points etc..)

not that dosent need declaring on most insurance policies.

Induction kits such as the focus one or a GSR kit will give you a bit of extra power and torque - have a search through the forum its been covered loads of times.
