My MK2 Punto is now three years old and when I got it there was no alarm or central locking and it had a standard tape-deck with no subwoofer. Last year I added and alarm, then central locking, then a Pioneer MP3/CD head-unit and a standard Fiat Punto 100W Subwoofer.

Over the last four weeks I've had the battery go completely flat on me twice and had to recharge it to get it going again.

Keepping in mind that I am still using the original battery that came with the car am I overloading it with everything I've added? Up until 4 weeks ago I've had no problems. The last thing I added was central locking in March/April this year.

I've been told by a mechanic friend that a heavy-duty battery would be no good because something is draining the power when the car isn't running.

I'd appreciate any thoughts/suggestions as to how to solve this problem.

Thanks in advance....

I fitted everything, I knew enough about electrics to fit everything but not enough to find out what could be draining the battery.

Llike I say everything worked fine up until two weeks ago.

Could it be that the battery has come to the end of it's useful life after 3 years?

How would I tell which of the items I've fitted is draining the battery?

On my radio I can press the 'off' button and it displays the clock and stays like this unless I press and hold.........Do you do this with your radio. Its just a thought and probably uses hardly any of the battery.

What alarm system do you have? Some have a feature of not draining the battery- yours mite not

But because its only started in the last two weeks, battery is probably gonna need changing.

Thanks for the reply. The alarm I fitted is only a cheapy one and definately doesn't have any non battery-draining feature.

My head-unit is removable and I always remove that panel when I get out of the car.

I had to charge the battery exactly two weeks ago and again yesterday and I reckon if I leave it another two weeks I will have to do the same again.

I think it can only be the alarm or possibly the central locking but the problem is how to tell which.

Thanks again for your help :)

Got to agree with Wolfracepunto, new battery required, especially with winter coming on. Lincoln
