sooo whats involved , Iv just finished swapping the engine in my zr so now thats back on the road i want to start playing with the punto.

I want the 2ltr coupe engine turbo .

soo any advice , iv heard its not actually that un comman either

My mate has put a Renualt GT5 engine in his punto and man it must be one of the fastest punto in England. hes got Dry nitros Wet Nitros and built the turbo himself from a R34. Running over 400bhp.

Bet that was expensive, was it worth the effort? Must have done plenty brake and suspension mods too....

It hasnt had it out of the garage since 05 lol hes replaced everything on it new wings bumpers/ suspension/Springs the car is basically new. he only takes it to track meetings for quater mile. but still adding bits to it lol.

I will see if i can come round to his some time to get the pics. then will get them posted.

Details would be cool. As for your motor swap space might be tight, and the motor you suggest is heavy as hell so handling might be "interesting" to say the least.

right well ill change my question a bit :)

what conversions are most comman , I am not looking for something like a 1.4 or 1.6 n/a , i want to achieve over 200 bhp without spending ££££'s . as in i have got pleanty to spend , but i would prefer a bigger engine rather than having a smaller one stressing its b*ll*cks off

I have the car already, a mk1 punto 55. fully stripped it out, just deciding what engine i want for it now

Well if money is no object and you have the facilities I would go for a mid engine mounting, that way you get much better weight distribution and you have more engine options. How radical are you prepared to be? How about something like a Suzuki Hayabusa motor? Sequential shift, I think I saw something similar on here, Jeez those motors rev high and would sound the shiz on a straight through... car would need to be real light for best benefit. Are you planning on keeping 4 seats or a proper street tool thoroughbred special?

Hayabusa motor in a Punto would be mad, ive seen the videos of a smart car with one fitted and its just carzy. But as Ffoxy said the car would need to be so lightweight to make the most of the motor, would end up as a glorified go-kart

a hayabusa engine is similar sixe to the punot 11 I'd say would probs need large direct induction the biggest problem would be the gearing and making the speedo work would be awerome if dropped into the engine bay though, I know they are high revvers but you wouldnt have to mess with fuel too much exhause would be straight through as said or silenced. but they develop about 140bhp standard.... hmmmmm im getting interested now...

It was an excellent option on the Caterham 7 lol! I saw 1 guy who had a DOUBLE Hayabusa set up! Awesome!

Well did you see the new caterham on Top Gear last Sunday, costs something like £39000 and was faster round the track than the bugatti veyron

Yes but they not comparable with each other TBF. Aerial Atom and Caterham would be a better match... although the price difference would make the Aerial the obvious choice as long as you dont mind bugs in your teeth and getting wet / cold on days like these...Now theres a thought Davez_R, the Honda supercharged motor the Atom uses in your Punto... LOADS of work but you say you got the cash...

Now in the Veyron you would get neither wet, cold or bugs in your teeth. (y)

The ariel has a 2.0 Honda 4-cylinder i-VTEC, 240BHP, that doesn't strike me as alot, but when its fitted into a car that light its always gonna be fast

The power must be awesome for a small car, my M5 is 400bhp and thats fast in a 1760Kg car :slayer:

it's a very very tight squeeze. I only know of one car that has that engine in it. It's mega fast, but doesn't go round corners.

The Fiat Coupe Turbo is S*** on corners as well but very fast in a straight line (y)

Post some Pics I am sure the Punto guys will love to see them.

Deffinatly look forward to seeing some pics even if WiP....
