Hello all, new here.

My 2000 fiat punto sporting has a problem with the starter motor, in that it just keeps spinning.

I need to know how to remove it (i.e. is there two bolts holding it in or three?) as its in an awkward place! Also must the wires connected to the solenoid be removed as well?

All answers much appreciated.

hi. disconnect the battery first, the wire to the starter is unfused from +ve terminal.

there are 3 bolts that hold it on. there are two terminals on the back, both need the wires removed from them.

easiest way to access it is (imo) to have the car up on axel stands and to attack it from underneath the car.

thanks for the reply but from my vantage point i can only see 2 bolts from under the car, could you tell me where the third one is?

No I havent got a new starter yet, was hoping to refurb if possible.

it will be very similar to this (connections might be different, slightly) but the mounting is the same.

the hole i have circled is threaded, (and is the one you can't see from underneath) where as the other two are not.

if your starter is spinning but not engaging then it is probably just the solenoid.

Hi,

Can I jump in on this thread?

I have a similar problem with my starter. I have a replacement but can't get the old one off.

All of the bolts have been removed (there are only two as it's on a panda gearbox) but the motor will not budge. I have given it a good shake, taken a mallet and breaker bar to it. Nothing will budge it.

Any ideas?

Cheers
Will
