for a change not asking for help, thought i'd post to help others.
Mk.1, 1.2 with fast idle (2 - 3k ) lumpy and hesitant on acceleration with the injection system malfunction warning light on all the time ( the one that looks like spraying nozzle ).
This was the coolant temperature sensor ( on the right of the inlet manifold ) open circuit.
the story was we took the engine out and replaced for other problems and had the fault on restart. Nothing amiss on inspection and had to get the codes read. turned out the sensor wires had been pulled off during the job but not visible as the connectors were still hidden behind the rubber boot !
Strangely I've read other posts saying that a faulty coolant temperature sensor does NOT give an injector system fault, I can assure you it does if open circuit
