are lasses sister has just been round cause her punto is not running right, i've traced it down to one of the coils not working and its only running on 2 cylinders, it still drives and turns over on its own but can only get 20mph out of it, its only just over 5 years old, is it common for them to go so quickly? or could it be something else on the wiring side that is not sending a current to the coil?

right i changed 1 of the coils and it still was the same so i've changed the coils around and found it is not the coil that is at fault and that it is not getting a signal from ignistion ecu, so i've got a second hand ecu from the scrap yard, but it wont fire at all now with the new ecu, are they coded or could it be a faulty ecu? i've put the original 1 back on and its firing on 2 cylinders again.

you didn't read the guide did you?
yes i read the guide but i didn't have a test light or a power probe to test the ecu so i bought a new coil as from what i have been told they are common for going.

as for using second hand ecu Chris@souls would it work if i got the ignistion barrel and key from the car that the ecu came off and swapped them over? or is there over things that are coded up to the key?
i will get the part number for the ecu but will it cost alot? i gave £17 for ecu from the scrap yard which i thought was reasonable, if it had worked that is lol.

so in other words these state of the art anty theft systems that they put on new cars are just a way of raping us of are money when they go wrong!
OLD FIATS(y)
NEW FIATS(n)
what is wrong with just putting a alarm imobiliser on so when your every day running parts mess up you can change them with little cost and you can do it yourself. damb all car companys for screwing us over.

Because you wouldn't have a car because thieving gits would of stole it by now, thats why we have code 2 immobiliser systems so they cant be stolen and this is mostly due to the ECU! Also you wouldn't get the performance or fuel economy if you didn't have a ECU or the reliability and it also helps the car get through the EOBD emission laws.

In other words dont blame the manufactuer (all cars use this or similar systems) and get a new ECU (or at least get it tested at a garage) or a complete lock/key/ECU/body computer set at a scrapyard or ebay.

New ecus are only about £120 anyway, so with what you have wasted on a used ecu and a coil you would have been a quarter of the way there. And you know that shop in Harry Enfields show Harry and Paul? I saw you coming? Thats your scrappy.

but this is worse as they now brake into your house to get the keys or car jack you at gun point, which cant be nice, i know i would rather wake up to my car being gone but my family safe than having someone braking in just to get my car keys, a car just isn't worth it!

£120 ?? hmm I'll take 10 off you then!! lol

Code 2 system is so more advanced compared to the old code one! Its one of the reasons why Fiats have low insurance groups!!

No problem Chris, you obviously dont have the backing of the largest independant Fiat parts stock in europe. Please place your order.

would it be possible to just replace the part on the ecu that has gone faulty?

No

 well what if you got mugged in the street & your car keys taken!
