Firstly i have read all the mk2 clocks related threads i could find, but just wanted a few things clarified. Please don't flame i'm still learning!

Anyway i've got a w reg basic mk2 punto with basic clocks (speedo and fuel) and just bought a set from an Active. (rev counter etc.)

Fitted it tonight and it all works EXCEPT, the guy i bought it from told me it had 47000 miles on it and mine has 50000 so i thought it would be ok. However, when i fitted it, it is showing 50623!!!

Firstly, i have driven a mile with these clocks in, with the display flashing, does that mean if i put the old one back in, it will flash as well?

Would it flash with the correct mileage, the old mileage, or the mileage of the new unit?

If anyone knows the answer, your help would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks:)

Nice one mate thanks. Just out of interest, is that because the "body computer" permanantly knows the cars mileage, regardless of what the instrument cluster reads?

If that is so, then why wouldn't FIAT lower the mileage to the correct one, since they would know it was the correct mileage for the car.

Guess i could wait till my mileage equals the one on that unit then do a swap and not need any proxy alignment?

So even FIAT have no way of putting mileage down then, even by like 500 miles?

clocking is not illegal.

im not sure how it reconises what mileage it was on tho? i unplugged mine for a while on my jtd, for a few k miles, and when i plugged it back in it was on the same mileage as before, no flashing or anything.

so what your saying is its perfectly legal to have a car showing 40k when its actually done 140k.
if thats the case i'm off to unplug mine for a couple of years that should push its value up when i come to sell it.

so if i was too do this how easy is it and how much to get the milage put forward and would i need to write the milage on the old dash down?

so i wirte down the milage and the garage will put it back to that milage for me?

My local FIAT wants £77 to do this job which i really cant justify, but it needs done. When i go, what is the best thing to say to them in order to get it for less?

lol cheers guys

I brought one about an hour ago on ebay 55k miles £27.50 inc p&p! ... my car is on 70500 so super fine.

search punto (cluster, instrument, speedo, dash) you will find a few

its not illegal to clock a car, what it is illegal is to sell for the car saying the mileage is genuine, hence when car dealers clock the cars they say 'mileage not warranted' :p

but yeah its perfectly legal to clock a car, hence all the companys around which offer mileage correction.
