Good morning all!

I have a Punto mk2 and recently noticed that my brake lights are staying on when I release the brake pedal... the only way I have managed to temporarily resolve this is by putting my foot under the brake pedal to nudge it up vertically... thus turning the brake lights off. Other than that, if I slam on my brakes, the light will go off automatically... the problem tends to be when I use the brakes gently.

Has anyone else had this problem or can anyone offer any advice on what I can do to resolve the issue? I tend to get people flashing their lights and beeping their horns at me on the way home from work every night lol :slayer:

Thanks

Craig

Sounds like there's a sticky spring or something. The switch is usually just a plunger that the pedal presses onto, so it sounds as if the pedal isn't returning properly. When you brake heavily, you probably let the brakes off quicker as well so the pedal has more 'momentum' to let it return.

Thank you my friends, I will try to check it out over the weekend and get back to you :)

I'll have to put up with the beeping / flashing / swearing for a couple more days ha... too dark to do it on weekdays cos i work during the day :(

I had the same problem, the switch was sticking, just remove it (if i remember correctly its above the brake pedal) you have to turn the switch to get it out.

I took it apart and cleaned mine with washing up liquid and warm water, dried with a can of presurised air.

Very simple
