hi,

was wondering if anybody has experienced a water leak in the passenger side footwell on a punto. the car is a Y reg.

been in various garages who don't seem to know how to solve the problem.

water only seems to leak when it's been raining hence a leak in a mechanical component can be ruled out. doesn't seem to be coming from the door either.

last mechanic thought that it might have been leaves had clogged up the windscreen run off point which caused it to overflow but the runoffs are clear and it's still leaking

any suggestions/advice would be grateful recieved.....i'm sick of it!!!

cheers

It may be leaking past the bulkhead at the top.

What needs to be done is the bonnet and hinges to be removed off the car and silicone sealer needs to be applied at the back and sides where there are any gaps.

Have done this a few times on mk 2's and seems to do the trick.

Welcome to the forum, just down the road from me then???!!

Have you opened up the gromit just under the carpet near the glovebox (or have you got any additional ICE- needs the gromit for power lead)

You could always go to Caledoina near Morrisons ;) theyre quite helpful

cheers for the responces, going to give the garage a bell who looked at it 2day and see if they have anymore ideas but failing that i'll go as suggested to fiat. was just a bit reluctant to let the main dealer have it because of the inevitable large bill!!

and yeah i'm in bispham but work in st annes!

whey, more local people! if you see a stupidly low yellow cinq.. thats me. or a yellow abarth kitted sei with blue mud flaps - don't race it, it belongs to my mate and has a 1242 in it!

You have to attend to several areas on your car as mentioned previusly remove the bonnet and hinges and paint on a undersealant compound around the hinge area and across the bulkhead seams and the raise the car remove the front wheels and the plastic inner wing liner and again paint the seams visible this is the only way to attack the leaks and i would do both sides, also check that the door rubbers seal correctly.

I have exactly the same problem on my W reg Punto, is there anything else I can look at? It's not coming in the door seal or the inside of the door, and two garages have failed to find the problem. How easy is it to remove the bonnet and hinges? Can I do it myself?

Ok, have checked the door, bonnet hinges and the screen, all seem OK. It's coming down behind the black plastic moulded kickpanel - is this easy to remove?

I've taken it to three garages now, no-one has found the solution and my local Fiat dealer says he won't look at it, I'm already £200 lighter and coming to the end of my tether!!!!

he didnt say check bonnet hinges, he say remove them to seal the bulk head (metal pannel that is between bulk head and inside of car) its a known fault on mk2s :)

I can only remove the bolts, the actual hinges are spots welded to the engine bay
