Hi

Went out to start the car today (Mk2 1.2 Active), put on the heaters to clear the screens everything fine...Then turned the ignition and theres nothing there. It gives two ticks over and gives up and the lights on the dash flash on and go crazy then off completely, but will work again when put in mar position.

Last week i had an MOT and a new ignition switch fitted. This was because my car would not start last week and there were no lights on the dash at all when put in mar. However whats different about this time is that the lights come on fine when put into MAR position, everything works until you turn the igntion unlike the other week where in MAR nothing came on and the engine did turn over.

The car has been working perfect since the MOT and service and its only this morning that it has happened. Is it the cold? it must be about minus 2-3 out there at the moment.

Any help much appreciated.

Thanks,

Nev

Sound like a classic flat battery case. Can you get a mate to bump start you down the road? If the alternator's ok, you should put enough charge back in to start it again in about ten mins of driving. If still flat after that, alternator could be iffy, or battery is probably knackered. There are other causes of that problem, but those are the most common.
