Question Flashing injection warning light

My daughters punto lost power but kept going on the way to work this morning. The injection warning light flashed on and off regularly. When she got to work she called the breakdown service to look at it. The problem had gone when they arrived. She drove home and all was well. It has just had new ignition coils (not Fiat parts) Any ideas - is it worth replacing all speed sensors as I have had problems with these on both Vauxhall corsa , VW polo

Re: Flashing injection warning light

Flashing EM light is misfire or pre-catalyst damage, check plugs & leads first then look at the below link;

Re: Flashing injection warning light

Flashing EM light ? Engine Management I presume and this is the light that the handbook refers to as injection warning light, yes?

The coils are new and there has not been a problem since these were fitted a few weeks ago. ECU? the car is running fine now so it is an intermittent fault, does that rule out the ecu as a problem? It was a damp and cold morning and the problem had cleared up by 11.00am. perhaps I should look at the wiring. What is pre-catalyst damage?

Thanks

Re: Flashing injection warning light

Pre catalyst damage is a failed exhaust to downpipe gasket or a hole in the manifold/downpipe.

Re: Flashing injection warning light

As part of EOBD legislation the car must inform the driver (via EOBD/EM warning light) of emission control damage. If your car has a misfire then the cat will be contaminated with unburnt fuel which will ignite causing cat damage (renault cat's glow a lovely colour of red when a coil goes down, looks nice but costs the owner 600+) thus the cat will not be doing its job (preventing harmful emissions) as it is not operating within specification.

Re: Flashing injection warning light

I presume the onboard diagnostics computer will have identified a problem. How long will this hold the fault code since i will not be able to get it to a garage before Thursday?

thanks
