Technical Engine Cut Out - Now Wont Start. No Dash Board Lights

I've got a 2002 Punto Active 1.2.
Yesterday i reversed and the power steering went really stiff and the dash board lights flickered and the engine cut out. After this the engine did not start but is ticking over when you turn the ignition. However no lights on the dash board come up. Bump starting it did not work and i hadnt left anything on through the day...

Has anyone got any general ideas on what the problem is? Electrical?

I'd appreciate any help given.

Hi mate,

Is the code light on the dashboard coming on and then going out when you put the key in and turn it to MAR?

Did the car cutting out happen just after any bumps? Such as speed bump etc?

A1ant - Theres no lights coming on what so ever, When i turn it to mar theres nothing either. There were no bumps around, i was turning out of my parking space and the steering locked up, lights flashed and it cut out. Now no lights come on when i turn the ignition but it is cranking healthily just not firing...!?! any rough ideas? cheers for your help

Danny8oy - Ive read through this and my problem may be to do with the ignition switch. Its something to tell the workers at garage anyway if they're stumped. My only concern is that the problem described in that link is to do with his car not starting from the get go. Where as mine started up fine and cut out which could mean a different problem...
