Re: heater niggle...

Hi mate,

Yes your right, its very common on the Mk1 for the resistor packs to go. The resistor packs basically limit the voltage that gets supplied to the fan, so when you put it on setting 1, it gets lower voltage than 2 or 3 (and so turns slower) when you select 2, the second resistor provides more voltage than 1 but less than 3, and the reason why 3 always works if the other resistors go, is becuase itsa just straight 12v and requires no resistor. You can get them out of a car at a scrappy for cheapness, or you can get them from fiat. They arnt that expensive. I always advise that you check the condition of your fan motor though, as the resistors normally go when its sticking or getting damp, so cure that first before replacing the resitor pack.

Hope that helps,
Alan

Re: heater niggle...

ace, will check them tomorrow, i erm like making things "different" would i be able to replace the burnt out resistance wire with a resistor of the same value? or another resistance wire, or does the whole unit have to be replaced.
from a bit of looking on the forum, im guessing that if i stick my head in the foot well and start undoing screws ill find it...

Every one I've ever looked at has been either a moulded block with them in or a pain in the rear to open, faster to just change the whole block normally!
