Hi guys,

I have just purchased a 2000 Punto ELX 1.2, I used to have a Mk1 75sx which was great so hoping this new one keeps with tradition.

I have a HU that I bought a while back that I want to fit in my new car to replace the ghastly standard one, but i'm really not sure how.

The head unit is a Sony CDX-GT50UI CD Player with iPOD connection

Will I need a fascia adaptor?

Any other tips would be greatly appreciated!

If its a factory fitted tape player fitted it will need to be removed and youll need to get a new fascia that allows you to fit the new one. i got the bloke who fitted me alarm to do it for us

Hi mate,

Yes you will need a fascia adapter. The plugs at the rear of the standard head unit are of the ISO type, and therefore you wont require any adapters etc, it will just be a straight change over job. You will need a radio removal tool to take out the old radio (these are dead cheap from places like halfords) however you can improvise and use a coat hanger or thick paper clip. These go in the 4 holes (2 on each side of the HU) to release it from its cage. The There are two ISO connectors on the rear. and then 2 or 3 smaller yellow/ blue ones. You will only need the two larger ISO connectors, the others are to do with the CAN which wont be required on your new headunit. The aerial connection simply unplugs from the old HU and plugs into the new. Again, you may require an adapter to convert from male to female depending on what your HU has.

Its dead easy, but if you get stuck, just post on here and im sure someone will be able to help.

Hope that helps,
Alan

If you want you can just buy the removal key from Halfords, go out into the car park, use it, put it back in the box and return it, its only stapled in the box, we get loads of returns from people doing this and as long as they buy something else its not really a problem...

Thanks for the feedback.

I don't actually pick my car up till next Saturday but jsut wanted to know what I was dealing with.

I've read quite a bit on here about new HU's being Live all the time and not working parallel with the ignition, can this be fixed?

Hi mate,

Yes its an easy fix. just a case of swapping some wires. Its only really needed on a headunit that you cant "fully" turn off or if you dont want to have to turn the HU off every time you get out of the car.
