Hi everyone, haven't been on here in a while nice to see the old cars are still about!

Anyway I have to change the discs and pads on my MK2 1.2 8v for it to pass MOT. Got some nice mintex bits, but any advice or tips on how to change the discs and pads?

Cheers (y)

Hi mate,

Its dead easy. Undo the 2 bolts that hold the caliper to the hub. Remove the caliper with pads. Undo the two spigot bolts on the disk, and remove the disk. Make sure you clean the new disk with brake cleaner, as it will have a protective oil coating on it. Put new disk back on. Push Piston back into claiper slightly (making sure that the brake fluid level doesnt go too high in the resevoir. Put some copper greasr on the REAR of the new break pads. Put them in the caliper and put caliper back onto hub. Do up bolts.

Do the same on the pther side. Before starting, pump the break pedal untill it goes rock hard, Start car, it should go down slightly. Job done.

Hope that helps,
Alan
