Hi everyone...

I am thinking of buying a 2000ish Punto 1.2 sporting 16v....
First of all what are these cars like? thirsty?
With 70-80k on the clock FSH what sort of price should i be looking at...
Is this where the problems start kicking in?

I have seen one with one noisy tappet (on the forum) that quietens down after 2500rpm... What sort of problem is this and is it a big job?
Is it a sign of any other problems on the car?

Any help would be great(y)
Cheers

if it's made it this far it should be fine with obviously will need a good service to make sure it's all fine in the brakes suspension department

just make sure everything works that's all

the tappet is not a problem if it's fine when warm it's probably due to having the wrong oil in get some selenia 5w/30 or 5w/40 performer most people chuck 10w/40 in them and this makes them tap after changing the oil run the car to warm then hold it at 1000 rpm for one minute 2000 for one minuite 3000 for one minute 4000 for one minute and then work your way back down again 3 2 and 1 this replaces the oil in the hydraulic tappets quickly for you as the speed of flow throu them is quite slow then after this all tapping shou have gone even from cold

if not it's not a big job replacing them just requies top half of head removing a full set can be had from ebay maybe 60 quid

and check when it had a cambelt last it's best to have them every 5k or 5 years on the 16v engines
