Can anyone help me?
I have a 2000 Punto 1.2 8v. The problem I have is that when I put my foot on the accelerator it just doesn't go properley. It does accelerate slowly, but there is a borping sort of noise from the exhuast (There is nothing wrong with the exhaust as I have had it checked) and a sort of air sound. I can't go up any decent hill because it just wouldn't get up. Even small hills require low gears. Any suggestions welcome as it is driving us mad not knowing what to replace.
Thanks

Ahh yes. Lack of power, I see what the problem is.

You have a 1.2 8v punto.

No the clutch is fine. I had that replaced 18 months ago and I had the cilindar head gasket replaced earlier this summer. The car had the problem before the cilindar head gasket was done though and still has it now. I think it may be starting to get slowly worse. I know it will never be 0 - 60 in 3 seconds but a pedal car would probably keep up sometimes.
Thanks

the burping sound from the exhaust would be a misfire, Do you have an warning lights flash up on the dash when it happens?

if it only happens at full throttle i would suspect the coils/leads/sparks

and as for 0-60 time they are quoted at around 14 seconds standard

I don't think its a misfire as it is a constant noise which just increases and decreases when you put your foot down. It happens from the minute my foot touches the pedal as I try not to drive a full throttle. No warning lights are flashing. The spark plugs were new when the gasket was fitted to the cilindar head.

Could be some sort of induction noise incase the airbox has come off or free somehow have you checked this?

Yes the air filter has been replaced and the airbox screwed back down.

Rubber boot all fitted over the throttle body correctly?

The burping does sound like it could be some sort of induction noise as its always there on throttle but if its all been replaced and put back together correctly it shouldnt be that.

Does it ever hesitate or judder on acceleration or is it slow but smooth?

I'll have to check the rubber boot but I'm sure that my husband would have put it on if it looked like it was not on properly
It never hesitates or judders it is just slow and smooth. The more load the slower it goes, ie hills.
It has cost me a fortune this year and it is so dissapointing because I still can't go far in it, but I like the car

Well the more load - the slower it goes is always the case. What gear do you take hills in? Is it long since last full service?

I was serviced a few months ago. it depends on the hill but big hills are second gear and normal slope/hills are third. I couldn't keep going in fifth or forth like I used to do the same bits of road.

The timing belt was changed at a garage when the clutch was replaced about 18 months ago. It ran ok after that for over a year. But I'll get my husband to look.
Thanks

I would get someone with mechanical knowledge in your area to give it a once over.

Other than tht check for ECU lights etc

the 1.2 8v spesh in the mk2 is painfully slow im afraid

There are no lights on on the dash that shouldn't go on and off as normal. I'm hoping it isnt the ecu because it is so expensive.
This car isn't just slow, it used to be ok. I have driven it for the past 4 years. For the last 6 months it has had something wrong with it. It really struggles to accelerate. My old 126 would have left it standing and that was only 650cc.
