Reconditioned Engine required

Can anyone help. My Mother (86 bless her) was hassled by an impatient driver who forced her over a mine roundabout. Result cracked sump - no oil and seized engine. The car is a 2001 5 dr 1.2 ELX Speedgear with only about 20k on the clock. The garage want over 4000 for a full replacement FIAT engine. The book price of the car is only about 2200.

Does anyone know where I can get her own engine reconditioned and how much it would cost, or is there somewhere that can go a reliable engine change at a reasonable price - preferably in the Cheshire/Staffordshire/Manchester area.

Thanks

Bill

Scrappies will have a replacement but finding a known good one may be hard, may need some work like headgasket and / or cambelt / waterpump etc, would be ideal if you could find a rear ended car and hear the motor running, but the car is new enough to warrant a repair and there will be plenty advice from the Punto people on here I am sure.

That's very serious traffic control, but I thought mines had ben made illegal?
