Is it possible to add a gearbox speed sensor to an ABS vehicle so that the ECU uses this instead of the wheel sensors?

I have read posts from T14086 and littlepip17 describing how non-ABS vehicles can cause speedo/steering issues by not finding the speedo sensor on boot-up and looking for non-existing ABS wheel sensors. Can I use this to my advantage on my ABS equipped stuff to fit a gearbox sensor to the correct place and most importantly, will the speedo then work? Looking through ePer, part numbers for the body and engine ECU don't change between ABS and non-ABS models, just the loom is different to accomodate different sensors and ABS ECU. Is the software adjusted on an ABS model's body computer by the dealer / at the factory at all or does it just adjust based on what it finds at self-test? Perhaps it is wise to get a non-ABS loom too?

To answer the obvious why?! Basically, I have Punto electronics and engine in a classic Panda that I am developing.
