Hi I have a Punto 1.2 16v 98 reg a cupple of weeks ago we changed the clutch ourselves ,had a little problem with the gear selector but got that sorted .
So I got her taxed today and was driving her back to the house when I noticed a wiring sound which seemed to incresed with speed then came the burning smell I also noticed it dosent seem to have as much power either.
I guessing the clutch is burning and I need to take the clutch off again ,Im sure the clutch was lined correctly though we used one of those special clutch tools .
Can anyone tell me what they think i have done wrong, I replaced the pressure plate and bearing at the same time so i guess it dropped but i was so careful .
The only other thing i noticed was the clutch peddle only has to come off the floor about an inch to engage is this right?
Sorry for being so long winded and thanks for reading best wishes julie

it will be alinged ok as gear box wouldnt have gone back on if it wasnt.
did you fit plate the right way around, flat side to fly wheel often marked on it fly wheel side.

was there any sign of oil in the bell housing?

Hi Dave ,Im 99.9% that the plate is the right way around and there was no oil in the bell housing .Looking back the bearing seemed to me a little different but maybe the old one was worn .... the clutch works when i lift the clutch peddle an inch off the ground do i need to adjust the clutch ive read that The clutch adjustment is achieved by adjusting the clutch master cylinder pushrod . is this right? Also would this cause the wiring noise that im getting many thanks julie
