Hi folks,

Hope somebody here can help. I have a 1997 Punto 55s. I have been reading all the threads about red and blue keys but am a bit confused.
I have lost the only blue key I had for the car and I am being quoted £1200 by two different Fiat dealers to sort the problem.
I am looking at the only other option which is to sell the car for parts even though it is a great runner.

Is there anything else I can do??

you need a full lock set and ECU from another punto
usually for sale on ebay

or down to your local scrappy from experience you can usually get away without having a red key sop dont worrie if you cant get the red key down the scarppy

As I am a bit of a novice re cars, does it have to be the exact same model of Punto? (not finding any on ebay) Is the 1997 55s a MK1?

With the scrappy, will they have the ECU to sell seperately and will I need a mechanic to fix it to my current car?

a punto 55 or 60 ( with any letters after the number ie s sx..) will fit so will a cinq sporting.
you need the locks, the ignition lock and holder, ecu, and code box. you should be able to fit the ecu and code box you self, but may struggle the locks, as the igniton lock holder one has security bolts that you have to cut a slot in and then undo with a screw driver.

you have to change that bit as your old ignition lock wont come out of the holder with out the key

I have just spoken to a parts chap at a Fiat dealership who has said that if I take off the plastic around the steering I can see if it has an antennae or not. If it doesn't then it is a simple lock and barrel fitting I need but if it does it will cost the full £1200.

I am snowed under by this as I don't know the first thing about cars. If I follow the previous posters advice and get all the equipment from a scrappy would an independent mechanic be able to fix it.

Laurie, i have broken a punto 60S on a T reg. I have an ECU, immobiliser, full set of locks and a blue and a red key (both operate all locks and ignition) for £75.
