I have a 98 60 sx, and my wife has just phone me to say that she is on her lunch break and took the car from her place of work, to a shop which is 5 mins up the road, left the radio on, ran into the shop, back out again, tried to start the car, but it was dead - not even turning over.

She says, all internal, and external lights are ok, the car started first time this morning and agian when she went to the shop, but now it just clicks !!

Do you reckon it is the starter motor or possibly a faulty battery connection
??

Any help would be much appreciated !

tell her to turn the ket and see is the orande immobiliser sign shows (usually a orange car or orange letter with the word code) if this stays on its the antenner where the key goes in. the barrel it has a plastic circle round it sometimes it dont pick it up so if she jabs it with the key is should sort it for now let me know how it goes ok

At luinch time today mine 99 punto 60 did exactly the same thing!!!!!!!!!!!!11

aaah!! is it just coninsidence?? or is it the Fiat God playing games?

I aint been able to look at mine yet as my dad picked it up from benfield fiat where it has been all of yesterday and last night having the recall breaks done. He said he tired to start and it wouldn't!!

Apparently it is not benfield fiats fault as it was fine when they drove it off the ramps to outside the workshop. hmm..........

I think i will have a go a tthem when I finish work and tell em to fix it.

Clayton, I asked my dad to have a quick look at it, as I am still at work, so he stuck the jump leads on her, and it started straight away !!

A strange one, possibly a loose terminal or something ?

if it started with jump leads could be a really nackered battery. my sisters got a mk1 punto started first time everytime untill one day got back to car park and it was dead nothing would happen. we charged battery up over night but battery was jst dead would not hold a charge it had just gone completly just like that. wierd new battery sorted her though :)

Well after long arguments with benfield yesterday (argued through my dad cos I wasn't there). They have decided to do work half price as we cannot decide whos fault it is.

The battery is completely flat! and i don't mean just flat, i mean it has lost all current completely. They charged it overnight last night and my dad is going to pick her up today. They said if the battery isnt still charged fully 2 hours after they take the charger off (i.e. has lost power already). then they will replace the battery for a new one. Of course half price. Very kind of them.
I can now recommend benfield fiat in newcastle, they are quite nice actually.

Now I just have to check if they replaced the brake pipes that the recall was for or if they just coated them in grease. I think someone mentioned to check this on another topic a week ago.

Nice one mate, but I have another problem.

Now the radio is asking for the code as the battery was dead, does anyone know what it is ?? As far as I know, it is just the bog standard Fiat radio.

you should have the code with the booklet for the radio. Failing that, you can contact a Fiat dealer and they can trace the code and give it to you. (this is how my sister got her's back working)
