Hi everyone been a while since last post but everyone was really helpful last time.

I got up this mornin drove about 5 mins down the road the car was fine, i stopped for about 15 mins. i then came back out to carry on my journey, so i started the engine, turned over no problem i moved around 10 yards and felt something was wrong, i actually thought i had stalled the car, (people were talkin in the back n had other things on my mind) so i tried to restart but nothing, i had to push the car back to where it was, so i goes to have a look and the cam belt had slipped off, not snapped just slipped sideways and off.

cant get anyone to look at it for a few days so im just wondering if ive totaled the engine, i really hope not cant afford an engine rebuild or a new car.

any info would be great. thanks in advance.

P.S. it a 1996 MK1 punto 55 s.

Hi mate,

Yours is the 1.1 8v so its a safe engine, meaning that the pistons wont have hit the valves when the belt came off, and therefore you should be fine. Will just need a new belt and timing up and your away.

Good luck,
Alan

Brilliant

Thanks Alan

Most appreciated, i can stop worrying now.

Thanks again

Just one last thing. The most probable cause of the cambelt slipping is either a badly adjusted tensioner, or a damaged tensioner. Make sure that a FULL cambelt kit is fitted, including a new tensioner. Fitting just the cambelt may cause the same problems to happen again.
