I have just aquired an Active 5million and the trip computer- whilst seeming to work ok - mpg, distance etc etc - keeps flashing on and off.It seems like something needs resetting but no indication of anything in the hand book. Also the speedo under reads by about a third. I feel these could be connected but like I said the trip info seems pretty accurate and I'm not getting any other lights up - ecu or anything (touch wood!). Anyone got any ideas?

I've booked a diagnostic check but would be grateful for any prognosis from you Fiat heads.

Thanks

Hi and WELCOME TO THE FORUM!

It needs proxy alignment by a fiat dealer. Only takes a few mins and as you already have it booked in, they will prob do it there and then for you.

Hope that helps,
Alan

Thanks Alan.

When I spoke to them (Fiat in T Wells) they did not seem to have any idea what the problem was and wanted the car for an hour (and 50quid!) and then "take it from there" - unquote! ... Does it have to be a Fiat garage or can a specialist independant do the job? We have one in TWells who I could see.

Do you think the speedo problem is related? When the car is at idle or switched off the needle is right off the register about 2 inches below the zero reading like a retaining pin or something at zero has fallen off.

'Scuse my laymans terminology!

Hi....

You probably spoke to someone on the phone who wasn't a technician. Its a pretty common occurance. It has to be a fiat garage as they need to use there computer system called "examiner" to set it up. Proxy alignment is basically configuring the unit to your car (this could be the cause of the speedo being off the clock when at rest) Think of it very basically like zeroing a set of scales before you weigh anything so that you know its accurate.

Hope that helps,
Alan
