Got a mk2 punto sporting 1.2 16v, when accelerating quickly from a standing start it accelerates really slowly until it reaches 4k rpm then it goes like a rocket. Its almost like the butterfly in the tb is sticking, was all gunked up when i bought car but have had loadz of carb cleaner in there n its clean now but still seems like its sticking, if stationary u can rev engine and its okay and butterfly opens fully when 'blipping' the throttle but when its under load it doesnt like it, has had full service but not change, any help would be brill as its really annoying now, lee

I think there's a variable inlet manifold as well, isn't there? I haven't bothered to take off the exciting plastic inlets to see, but there may be throttle butterflies in there too. If your throttle body was gunked-up, then maybe the inlet manfold throttles are too. Just a thought.

ill have a look into that, also it wouldnt idle properly earlier was idling between 600-1000rpm going up n down quite quickly. ill try some more carb cleaner through it again n see what happens

still no change, idle appears to have sorted itself out, still rubbish acceleration in 1st, got beat of lights earlier by a 5 door 998cc yaris, how rubbish is that!

Gutted. Can't beat a good old Yaris Was it a mk1 or mk2? And how you know it was only a 998cc? Not sure if the VVT-i would have helped.

Its my mates yaris, its a x reg 998cc vvt-i so gutted, just been for a thrash in punto n discovered that if you floor it in 1st when temp gauge isnt upto normal operating temp its okay. Goin to get it plugged in 2moro at work.
