Whats the usual milege span on the mk1 punto 1.2 8v engine?

depends on how its been driven/serviced, 160k+ should be achivable

...how about been in an accident (i dont know any more details than that) and oil has been leaking from the engine in the past but repaired. Also no service history so no idea of the services.

aslong as the ol was kept topped up and there's no worrying noises it should be ok, but check to see for headgasket failure as if it wasn't repaired properly(head skimmed) then it will happen again.
oil comming from the cam cover is common and an easy diy fix

Ditto. Most FIRE engines are capable of 150K+ of usual abuse
