Hi, I really need some advice here as i have no idea as what to do!

(Fiat Punto 1.2 2001 - Black bumbers if thats any help!)

I had my car serviced and MOT'd a little under 2 weeks ago, it cost me £200! Apparantly i needed a new radius arm.

Since my mot and service my car has been making a loud knocking sound coming from the rear of the car, its worse when turning. Also my engine is making a loud whirring sound whenever my rev's are up (Cam belt?)

And then to top all this off my power steering now doesnt work, and the light is on the dashboard to confirm this, its pretty much undrivable unless you have muscles like the hulk!

Also i think my gear box is on its way out as its increasingly difficult to change gear, and theres one other sound coming from the engine, sounds really high pitched and thats a constant sound.

So basically, i dont know what to do with it, i cant afford a lot of money to get it fixed, im starting to think the car is cursed, on Christmas day someone drove into it and left a giant hole in the side of the car, that only cost me £400 to fix! (and since the door now wont open) It's also had a new clutch since ive had it too.

Should i scrap this car???!!! (would it cost me money to scrp it?)

Thank you for your help!!!!

the knocking sound coming from the rear could be the radius arm your power steering not working, when was the last time you check the level of the power steering fluid? high pitched may or may not be your fan belt that needs to be replaced

Should be a mk2 punto so no power steering fluid as the whole set up is electric.

I dont think its the fan belt, ive heard one of those breaking before! this sounds more like metal is grinding against something!

do you think the dodgy garage man has made a mess of this radius arm he is meant to have replaced?

so power steering fluid then, where might i find this? I wasn't sure if it had fluid with it being electric power steering (I assumed this becuase of the 'city button'?)

How much do you think it would take to fix my car? Considering I estimate its value at no more than £750

It's okay, i just really dont know what to do with my car! :-S

maybe i should just get rid of it, do you think any garage would take it part exchange? or would i end up having to pay them?

Steering columns cost quite a bit to have fitted, plus the other stuff that maybe wrong.

I wouldnt go to the extent of literally scrapping it. If I were you I would get the car on ebay and get as much as you can for it, and put the cash towards another one. You could probably buy something similar punto wise or from another manufacturer for about what £1000-£1200?#

Or if you fancy finance get it in on one of those minimum part ex deals

Dan

thanks guys, yes maybe scrapping it is going to far, i am just really fed up of the thing!

I was worried about part x as of all the problems ive had with it, i think i will just have to go for finance and get a newer car to avoid these kinds of problems.

.....dont think i will be buying a fiat again any time soon!!!!

Might be worth checking the relevant fuse to see if the fuse for the power steering has blown.

My car is a mk2, and i had a funny noise coming from the engine before, it turned out to be just a lack of Oil. U checked it?

I'm almost sure that noise from engine is only bad bearnig in alternator or timing belt tensioner. It's very cheap to repair, around £10 for new tensioner / both alternator bearings.
