hi there,
just spent £400 on new alloys for my mk 2 punto, when ever i go round a bend it makes a loud rubbing noise, they are size 17's.
ive got a feeling its the plastic arch but not totally sure, any one got any ideas? how to get rid of them? cheers

has your car been lowered...?

usually cars that have been lowered alot will sometimes rub on the arches with 17's...
if not then it could be that they are the wrong of set....

Because of how the rear suspension is set up, the bigger the wheel you put on, the further towards the rear of the car the wheel is pushed and it catches (so I was told!!). It happened to me with my punto. I bought it with 17" alloys n it had been lowered 50mm, It was catching everywhere. In the end I sold the alloys n bought some 15" TSW black ice. Doesn't catch anywhere now n looks sweet as my puntos a black sporting :slayer:

your wheels are rubbing on the top shockie bolt. 5mm spacer will sort this out, case closed.lol

it's the lowering which cause the wheel to move backwards

the car is not lowered or nothing
would i need longer bolts if i put spacers on??? the alloys came with bolts and locking nuts etc.
i think the offset is 38mm, not quite sure...
cheers for the replies :)(y)

punto offset is 35 to 42 so 38 should be ok i suppose, im no expert.

if there 17's the profile should be 40mm or lower then in effect the space between the wheel and the arches etc would be same as running standard 14" with profile of 60mm

but it also depends on the pcd, puntos are 98mm as standard your new alloys are probably 100mm and im not sure what difference that would make, i agree that the spacers should sort it out tho long as the wobbly nuts are long enough

If the offset is ET38 then I would get some 3mm spacers, don't get universal ones as they're crap, get proper 4x98 Fiat ones. You can buy them from https://www.fiatforum.com/classifieds/showproduct.php?product=10962&cat=all

With 3mm spacers you shouldn't need longer wheel bolts. When doing the wheel bolts up, make sure there are a minimum of 8 full turns. If there's less than this then you will need to get longer bolts.
