Please can someone give us some technical help, the horn is not working, here is what we have tried so far:-

Tested relay, individually tested horn and checked fuses, all OK. Can someone tell us what else to try. Do we need to investigate in the steering column/wheel area??

Any help much appreciated!!

Thanks

Hello and Welcome to the forum!!

Is your car a Mk1 or 2etc?

It may well be that the little metal pins at the rear of the steering wheel have either become bent or corroded and as such are not making a proper connection with the metal ring on the steering column.

Sorry for the delay in replying, I am not sure what type I have (sorry its a woman thing!!) My other half asked me to post on here. Basically its a 53 plate punto 1.2 Active (facelifted). Hope that helps.

Have tested contact on horn (behind air bag) and all seems OK, any more suggestions would be appreciated.

Will answer that shortly when husband is back, but now have another problem, when he checked various fuses earlier, he appears to have affected the airbag as now the warning lights for both driver and passenger airbags are illuminated on dash. Things just seem to go from bad to worse. Is there something that needs to be done to reset or is it time to take it to a garage?? I must add that my husband is not normally stumped with electrics in cars, but this appears to have beaten him.

Ok thanks for that, will tell my husband the verdict when he is back, just out of interest, what do you think has caused this problem???

Hi, just seen your thread in the Newbie section

:confused:Hello there, I am new to this forum and have had a bit of help from one of the moderators but thought I would come here to see if anyone has any other opinions or advice. Basically I have a Punto which has been trouble free up until recently, but a few months back the passenger window went down then would not go back up. Have now ordered a replacement switch console off ebay as I think this is the part that has gone. Next thing to go was the horn, its not the horn as I have tested that and it works fine ested relay, individually tested horn and checked fuses, all OK. Whilst trying to sort that problem I have now ended up with another and now have both airbag warning lights illuminated on dash. I have been told that I will have to have this reset, but I am still struggling with the horn.

If anyone can suggest anything that might be causing the problem , or if anyone can recommend a garage local to Rugby then that would be appreciated.

Thanks for reading:confused:

As T says, the airbag lights will most probably be on because you have removed the fuse for the airbag system with the ignition on whilst trying to diagnose the horn problem. This will need to be re-set by fiat.

Also, when you checked the horn button itself, did you remove the airbag? And if so was this done with the battery connected and ignition on? As this too could have caused the air-bag lights to come on as you need the ignition off (and battery disconnected for safety)

If the relay is not activating and you are sure its working correctly, then it has to be a fault between the relay and the horn button.

Did you test the continuity of the horn switch? (again with ignition of) at the switch itself to make sure it is making a connection.
