hi guys, long time no speak - due to lack of problems which ain't a bad thing.

however the **** has hit the fan and something has gone wrong (MK1 1.2 8v) - think it is quite simple just looking for advice.

1) exhaust is blowing from the flexipipe bit between the downpipe and the CAT - can anyone point me in the direction of the part i need?

2) sump has perforated and is peeing oil everywhere.

it seems a simple job but i've noticed a few have had a few problems when they have been fitting a new one.

can anyone supply a parts list:

i know i need a sump (1.2 8v) (durrr)
what is the goop called to seal the sump?
do i really need to drop the manifold of and buy another gasket to fit?

any tips etc. step by step guide anyone is willing to enlighten me with?

cheers guys, hope your all well!

Josh

cheers dave!

hows things by the way?

so as i'm fitting a new downpipe with flexi (do i need any gaskets for this?)

is this right?

drop of the front pipe, remove oil, remove dipstick, undo sump bolts, cut sealant, clean mating surface, stick some RTV round (generous amount), hand tighten on, leave for 30mins to set, torque up, leave over night to go off, fit new front pipe, (GASKETS?), go to bed, wake up, fill with oil, turn over to check for leaks?

cheers,
Josh

thanks dave - its the job for wednesday/ thursday

tuesday is my last day ever at uni - will be a fully qualified teacher. seems funny that when i joined FF i was 2 months into the course. 4 years later and i'm done but the punto isn't!

When I did the sump on my Mk1 Sporting, by far the worst job was dropping the downpipe as the three nuts/bolts securing it had completely rusted on and were also somewhat rounded. It took me ages to remove them and they're so awkward to get at too... Give them a good spray with some penetrating oil a few days before, hopefully this will help.

As dave said above, leave the sump in place overnight before filling with oil. I used a good quality, expensive instant gasket as I definitely didn't want to have to remove the sump again due to it not being a good seal. I found a razor blade was helpful to remove all traces of the old gasket. Also, take care when trying to prise the old sump off - mine was stuck very very tight and I realised later that I had been very lucky not to have bent the surface the new sump needs to mate to

Good luck, let us know how you get on! :)

PS Love the rabbit pictures dave - we now have a black floppy eared French lop, but previously had a rabbit that looked just like yours.
