have a 53 plate 1.2 8v punto, the oil filler cap is just a little rubber bung, i notice it leaks oil, not alot but there is always a film of oil from the rubber cap down to the alternator,

my question is, how do you fix this issue?

sam

oil shouldn't really leak out as it creates a seal (hence being rubber)

clean all the oil off the bung and rocker cover (and anywhere else it has got)

and then try again...

if not, try another from a scrappies as yours could have deteriorated over time, or could just be a dodgy one!

not it leaks, i have done all the work to the car, i clean it down, and 2 weeks later its back again

Seems very strange:(, never heard of this happening before, the oil isn't even pushed upto the filler cap under pressure under normaly operating conditions. All I can suggest is what Tris said and try and get another rubber bung from a scrappy.

How easy is your bung to remove? All of our's are hard. I am assuming your Punto has a FIRE engine(y)

its pushed in there pretty tight, take some pulling to get out, when i say leak, its not pissing out to make the level on the dip stick go down, iust just a film of oil around the bottom of the cap and down the block, if it had exsess crank case presure surly the oil level would go down and ild have oil in the air box, which i dont

Sounds normal. Just what we have in the Panda 750L.

you cap has more than likely gone hard if you get a new one it will seal again it's very common on fiat fire 8v's as it's only rubber if your car has been overheated at some stage in its life maybe it had a head gasket fail that will certainly make the cap go hard it's only rubber after all

also as said even if the cap is leaking not to much oil should get up there so worth inspecting the oil seperator plate inside people have a habit of bending it out the way to make the cars fill quicker if you look in the top you wil see if it has been bent down

if your unsure take a picture of inside from directly above post it up here and i'll tell you

if thisis the case then it's something you need to get sorted out straight away as it will cause damage to the delicate sensors in the throttle body as excess oil will be getting pushed up the oil breather pipe

you can get a new oil cap for just a few pounds from www.shop4parts.co.uk just put up a search for S4P933
