General Timing belt change..

Fiat recommend every 75k or 5 years (whichever is sooner), although many people say every 50k or 3 years is a safer recomendation as when to change it.

You shoudl check the belt for cracks/wear, tho if it hasnt been changed within the last 3 years i would do it anyway, saves being broken down somewhere if it snaps. (it wont do any damage if it snaps on the 8v as it is a safe engine)

My mk2's just hit 60k - time for a timing belt change? How do i detect whether or not the old one is about to give up? Cheers.

This is half the problem, you can't half of the time:(. If you have a 6th sence saying it needs doing, then I'd get it done. It's something we always get done on our car's as soon as we get them, and when the mileage says it needs doing(y).

Jon.
