I have had what I considered a small problem with my 53 Punto Sporting which was that very very occasionally when I pressed the brake pedal then the airbag warning light would flash very briefly. It was only really noticable at night as the airbag warning lamp flash was very swift.

Today I took the car to Fiat under the warranty and this very small fault requires a complete new instrument cluster so it is booked in for two weeks time.

I made some enquiries at an independent garage which does mainly Fiat repairs and they said they have come across instrument panel faults before and in a great many cases the panel is repairable and usually works out cheaper than repacing it.

No wonder after warranty repairs cost an arm and a leg if they simply replace rather than repair.

Anyone else had cluster faults ?

i am having this problem, but i am out of warrenty...:(
did they say what the problem was?

A lot of water under the bridge since I posted this in 2004, but the Fiat garage changed the instrument cluster, the body computer, various other parts and finally the ignition switch. It took two months of taking the car to and from the garage until it was finally sorted.

I don't use the Derby Fiat dealer any more as they did not inspire confidence or anything else for that matter, but JCS Fiat at Kegworth, thats an entirely different story, first class.
