Its been like it since I have owned the car, but I would like to sort it.

My speedo and everything lights up properly, however the center console of my dash, the fan speed, tempature, and where its going is in darkness.

I never relised it should light up untill I took the front of the dash off to find that there are loads of bulbs under there...

I have checked all of the fuses that I could find and they're all fine, is it possible that every bulb has blown?

Is this a common fault and there is somewhere I should check before I waist money on bulbs?

Thanks a million,

-Andrew

they are only about £1.75 each anyway from halfords..... re-check fuses then get new bulbs

I buy bulbs in packets of 10 :) Cost a lot less (about 3 pounds in your money)

Yes it is perfectly possible that all of the bulbs have died, one-by-one over the years. Mine has one or two bulbs out at the moment. I haven't quite been bothered to take all the centre console apart to get to it.

I did want to convert mine to light up in white (with white LEDs) but perhaps won't bother, as it's such a mission to convert the instrument panel and the stereo, and the heater controls have an orange film in them so will be difficult to change to white.

Is it the same bulbs in the speedo that is in the dashboard? If so could I pull some out the speedo, and put in dash to see if it is the bulbs?

Looking around ebay and they're really expensive, like £15+

Anywhere that sells these cheaper?

is this a mk1 or mk2 i know a lot of the bulbs in mk2s are smd's (surface mounted diodes) these are not easily swapped

Huh.. The mid-console should light up?
I didn't know that either.

What make are your car?

OK - presumably this is solved by now... but anyway:

- All Puntos (Mk1, Mk2, presumably Mk2.5 and Mk3) have the dashboard centre (heater controls) illuminated. As for the make, I think that's likely to be FIAT ;)

- Mk1 Punto has two 1.2W wedge-based bulbs, Mk2 (and presumably Mk2.5) has four bulbs. These bulbs do not last forever and all tend to blow at about the same time, especially since the first to go out will not be noticed.

- Bulbs should cost about £1 each. Any more than that and they are probably LEDs that push into the bulb holders. These may work fairly well, but may also be too directional, leading to bright spots, and the colour may be a problem...

- ...heater controls have the green colour (Mk1) or orange colour (Mk2) built into the film that labels them. Changing the colour of illumination is not easy.

- Instrument panel, stereo, and round pushbuttons (on Mk2/2.5) are all lit by LEDs. These LEDs are difficult to change and should last indefinitely.

Just to add to what Alex has said, there is a guide in the guides section on how to replace the centre console bulbs on the Mk2/2b

One of my lights is gone too and i recently got the Haynes Maunual for my car (mk2b) and it says i have to take a lot out, gear knob and that whole area up almost as far as the stereo to get at the lights out, is there any quicker way?
