Hello, i have just noticed a exaust leak in my mk1 punto 60 today, it sounds like it has one of those boy racer back boxes on it and sounds like the leak is from the front of the car, if i put my hand over the exaust theres no compression, does anyone know where these leaks normaly come from on these cars ?

It does depend. Could be Front Section/ Middle?? If its a Stainless Steal backbox it shouldnt be that. Best getting it on ramps and get someone to rev whilst someone is under there to check the where the leak is coming from. Just hope its not the front pipe as it might be an arse to change. as the Lambra Sensor is on their and can be a pain to get off sometimes. I have to renew the bolts as well as they snapped off. Hope i havent put you off.

No it dosent have a stainless steel back box, the car just sounds like it has one now, the exuast gas smells of fuel abit so does that maybe mean its before the cat?

There was some very heavy rain a few days ago with flooded roads, there was so mucth water my engine was misfiring, i duno if this could have anything to do with it but this exaust thing has just basicly happened overnight

i dont have a lot of cash at the min so would i just be able to patch it up with some gun gum ?

Also if the leak is not before the lambda sensor is ti safe to drive? would it make any diffrence in performance or feul ecominy becouse the back pressure is altered ?

As long as the car is driving ok i would say it is safe but MOT Time it would need sorting out. You can patch it up but wouldnt be long till it would need patching up again and the time and about you use, you might as well buy a new exhaust which ever section it is.

Just get it up on some ramps see where it is coming from. Does sound like front pipe where the lambra sensor is. Front pipes are about £40. I would try patching it up if you dont have much money.

Just you will use more petrol as the gases arnt flowing in the right direction. Coming out of the hole and some out of the back.

Not sure if rain has done it but you never know with cars.

Is yours the 8v or 16v Engine? If it was a 16v engine and was middle of backbox i would have given you my old one for nothing. Only sold for 99p on Ebay lol.

I havent had this car long, i was wondering also theres like a like squeeking whining sound,sounds like the altenator belts slipping, and sometimes the widnows take a while to wind up, there was a oil leak before i bought the car so im not sure if thats caused it or the battery / alt is kanackered and sos a pretentioner

I just had middle and Rear Section of my exhaust.

Mine a convertable but currently only have Wiper Motor for sale.

Fixes the problem if your windscreen wipers dont park at the bottom of the windscreen or dont work probally. Common problem that water gets into the motor and shorts the cirket out.

It could be the belt, you can get some slick that you spray on it if its just making a sweeking noise, If it is slipping it might just need ejusting at the back of the altenator. you can sometime cure oil leaks with some add on that you put in the oil if its only slight.

I had an oil leak it was like dripping but all i did is get some gasket silicone and put it round where it was leaking. Firstly cleaned it up then put it on and has worked a treat.

Wiper moter seems tip top just annyoed what this sqeekng sound and the slow windows now and then fault could be, i hope its just a dirty belt

Are they electric windows? Mine are the same front two electric windows are dead slow passengers one needs a bit of help to get it to the top.

Ive had door pannel off a couple of time but still no joy. not much room to see what it could be. It must be runners that are too tite on the windows or could be the motors. Haynes manual is rubbish doesnt say much.

Ya haynes is aload of crap lol, have you ever come across a squeeking/ whiningsound under the bonnet?

the windows are fast some days and slow other, there especialy slow after its been raining.

Erm. Not yet, the Altinator belt you can hear alot but other than that it seems fine. I will let you know if they is any way you can sort out your windows, will have a tinker at mine but sounds like Motor if its worse when it rains.
